Boverton Nurseries Ltd is a long established family business specialising in Spring and Summer bedding plants for local authorities. It’s a sector that permits no errors: the plants need to be ready on time and exactly to specification. So, how is it that Boverton have been growing in volume in a peat-free medium for many years now - and they are thriving?

It’s probably true to say that Boverton were as sceptical as the next grower about peat-free growing media - and as reluctant to upset the equilibrium of a successful production system as Boverton’s Chris Roberts comments - “Our switch to peat-free growing medium coincided with the installation of new potting machinery and it has to be said that we did have some control issues at first, getting the machinery set to work with the new medium.

 

That being said change of any kind always involves a bit of trial and error whatever the medium - and it was not a major problem. The fact is that we have had consistently excellent results with Melcourt Sylvamix - by far and away the best we’ve had from the various peat-free products we’ve tried in the past.”
